Adding question items in your assessment

Once you’ve finished setting up your assessment, you’ll be taken to the Add Activity page.

  1. Shuffle Exam Order — Check this option if you want the questions to appear in a random order each time the assessment is opened.

  1. Item Limit — Enter the number of questions you want to display in the assessment for each attempt. This option randomly selects a specific number of items within the question bank.

  1. Time Limit — Set the duration of the assessment in seconds. For example, to set a 2-minute time limit, enter 120 in the field.

After configuring these settings, you’ll need to add question items. Click the + ADD QUESTION button to begin selecting a question type.

Note: You can also add new questions in between existing ones.


Selecting a Question Type

You can choose one question type per question item. The available types are described below.

Multiple Choice

  1. Enter your question text in the space provided under Question.


    • You may also upload your question as an image by clicking the image icon on the right and selecting a file from your device.

  1. Choose how you want the options to be displayed:

    • Multiple Choice – learners select one correct answer.

    • Dropdown – learners select an answer from a dropdown menu.

  2. Add your answer choices in the Options field. Press Enter after typing each option to add a new one.

    • The correct answer is indicated by a filled-in circle on its left.

    • You may also upload an image or audio as options by clicking the respective icons beside each choice.

  1. Configure additional settings:

    • Required – learners must answer this question before continuing.

    • Graded – checked by default; uncheck if you don’t want this question to affect the total score.

    • Shuffle Choices – randomizes the order of options for each attempt.

    • Show Result – allows learners to see which items they answered correctly or incorrectly.

      • Once enabled, you can add custom feedback messages for correct and incorrect answers. Click Edit Feedback to modify them.

      • You can also add images to your feedback by clicking the image icon beside the text box.

      • Don’t forget to click DONE once you’ve finalized your feedback.

  2. Click Save to store the question and/or add a new question item of a different type, or Save and Add Another Item to immediately create another question with the same question type.

Checkbox

This type allows learners to select multiple correct answers. It functions similarly to a multiple-choice question but with more than one correct option.

  • Check the boxes beside all correct answers.

  • Review all settings before clicking Save.

Fill in the Blank

Use this type for identification or fill-in-the-blank questions.

  1. Type your question text, then select the answer input type:

    • Text or Date.

  2. Enter the correct answer under Answer.

    • Text answers are case-sensitive and must match exactly.

    • For dates, use the DD/MM/YYYY format.

  3. Review your settings before clicking Save.


Text

Use this type for open-ended or essay-style questions.

⚠️ Warning: This question type requires manual checking to assign points. If you prefer automatic grading, we recommend avoiding this question type.

After you enter your question text, you can review all settings before clicking Save.


Poll

Use this type when you want to gather learners’ opinions or feedback—there are no right or wrong answers for poll questions.

⚠️ Warning: This question type also requires manual checking for grading.

Option input works the same way as in Multiple Choice and Checkbox types. Once you’ve set your options and preferences, click Save.
